'Hope for Haiti Now' telethon raises $58 million and counting for earthquake relief, sets record - The "Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" telethon has raised over $58 million so far, according to MTV.co.UK. MTV was one of the primary organizers of the event which aired on several television networks the evening of January 22, 2010.

Stars from Hollywood, music, and sports staffed a phone bank visible on screen during the telethon. Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, and Julia Roberts all spoke on camera over the phone with donors who gave amounts such as $25 to the cause.

Performers such as Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Jay-Z, Bono, Rihanna, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Justin Timberlake, Wycleaf Jean, Bruce Springsteen, and more provided tasteful entertainment on simple sets in Los Angeles, New York, and London throughout the 2-hour telethon. Many of the singers could be seen tearing up during their performances as they tied many of their musical selections to themes of the telethon and its cause - hope over suffering.
